Polesden Lacey

By popular demand we had a second visit to the local National Trust house at Polesden Lacey.

The day was as follows: The restaurant for coffee followed by a guided tour of the house and then lunch back in the restaurant which was a set lunch menu, waitress served.

The restaurant opened for coffee at 10 am: We went down to the house just after 11am and our guides were Bernard Reeves, Anne & John Mills which took about two hours. There was more to see than our last visit and the House was not open to the public.

There was a courtesy vehicle for those who would a lift down to the house and back to the restaurant and there are also plenty of chairs for sitting available in the house.

Report

I think it could be said that our visit to Polesden Lacy was a great success. 45 members with wives and few friends together with the help of one of our volunteers helped to make the day quite memorable.

Bernard Reeves, Anne Mills and John Mills were allowed the unique privilege of carrying out a guided tour without the help of one of the staff conservation team.

After enjoying a relaxing coffee in the restaurant we made our way down the house, some receiving the assistance of the Dennis vehicle driven by yours truly.

We were greeted at the front door by Audrey our able volunteer, we all assembled in the front hall. Bernard then gave the opening introduction and we then were divided into two groups one led by Bernard and Anne and the other by Audrey and myself.

Bernard’s group started upstairs and we into the Dining Room, after nearly a two hour tour both groups finished back in the entrance hall at the same time ( Good Timing or was it a fluke !! ).

After leaving the house we had some more group photos and then made our way to the restaurant where we were enjoyed an excellent meal served by a very attentive staff.

The day was enhanced by wonderful sunshine and a great bunch of people who hopefully went away with a little more knowledge of Polesden Lacey.
