- 19th June 2002 a report by Derek Youell After leaving our cars in the Sainsbury’s Car Park, hoping they would not be wheel-clamped during our absence, 54 members boarded the Coach and left EPSOM at 10.30 am.
We arrived at RUNNYMEDE and with Ken Robinson acting as ‘lolly-pop man’ we crossed the road and boarded the boat together with the four other members who had travelled by car, casting off at 11.30 am.
We passed THE HOME PARK at WINDSOR and could see WINDSOR CASTLE ** (above) high on the hill.
ROMNEY LOCK to see the Playing Fields of ETON
and
on returning to
the main stream
went up as far

BRIDGE
A Bar-be-que Chicken lunch was served on board and most members made good use of the bar. We returned to RUNNYMEDE at 3.30 p.m. Again our ‘lolly-pop man’ guided us across the road and we arrived back in EPSOM at 4.30 p.m. Our cars were not wheel-clamped and all agreed we had enjoyed our day on the River Thames.
** Note :- Windsor Castle is one of three official residences of The Queen and has been home to the Sovereign for over 900 years. The Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world and the oldest in continuous occupation. The imposing towers and battlements of the Castle loom large from every approach to the town, creating one of the world's most spectacular skylines. No other royal residence has played such an important role in the nation's history.
