Situated at
water's edge
with direct
private access
to sea bathing
or swimming in
the hotel
heated pool,
many of the
Probus members
just watched, but
a few of the
hardy members
braved the sea
bathing, more very
wisely enjoyed
the heated
pool. The hotel is
family owned
and indeed very
friendly and
comfortably
appointed. The
cuisine proved
to be
excellent.
Many
relaxed in the
hotel for the
duration of the
holiday,
walking along
the promenade
into town or to
the harbour for
their daily
exercise,
or took
this in the
comfort of comfortable
reclining seats!.
There was
plenty of entertainment
in the hotel or
at the local theatres.
The outward and
return journeys
by first class
coach were via Mere where
we enjoyed a
very nice pub
lunches and a
chance to
stretch our
legs.
After
breakfast on Friday the
coach left for
Dartington Mill
and Dartmouth
returning to
the hotel in
time for those
wishing to
attend a
theatre after
dinner.
On Saturday,
we visited the
beautiful
moortown
village of
Chagford and
Fingle Bridge a
picturesque
setting by the
river Teign.
Sunday
morning we
visited Brixham Harbour
some crossed to
Torbay by
boat returning
by coach soon
after midday in
time to
watch the
Wimbledon
Tennis final.
On Monday we
reluctantly
made the return
journey
stopping at the
quaint old port
of Exeter which
still retains its
own charm with
plenty of time for a
coffee there
before moving
on to the lunch
break at Mere and
finally we
arrived home
weary but
having had a
glorious break.
