The Tall Ships Youth Trust, incorporating the Sail Training Association, is a registered charity founded in 1956 and dedicated to the personal development of young people aged 16 to 25 through the crewing of Tall Ships.

This mission is delivered through two magnificent 60 metre square-rigged sail training vessel STAVROS S NIARCHOS and PRINCE WILLIAM and by promoting sail training around the world. Nearly fifty years on, the Tall Ships Youth Trust remains a world leader in the field of youth development.

To date, the Trust's ships have sailed 1.5 million nautical miles with over 65,000 trainees on board.

Over 4,000 trainees will sail on STAVROS S NIARCHOS

and PRINCE WILLIAM this year


Each voyage of 48 trainees is managed by 6 qualified permanent crew and 12 experienced volunteer crew with professionally qualified teachers and youth workers joining youth voyages - a new and pioneering approach to sail training

There are 60 Tall Ships Youth Trust local support groups across the UK, recruiting a broad cross-section of young people and fundraising to subsidise the cost of their voyages 

The Tall Ships Youth Trust's youth work is supported by the Department for Education and Skills and the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted)

Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages qualify for the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is the UK's largest single provider of RYA Competent Crew Certificates.

Sailing with Tall Ships Adventures offers one of the most exhilarating experiences there is! Whilst onboard you get actually sign on as crew and sail the ship – you are the crew. Each Tall Ship crew member gets involved in helming, setting and stowing the sails, scrubbing the decks, keeping a lookout and working in the galley. It’s a real hands-on experience where you get right into running the ship.

Seeing the sites from the top of the mast, living on a tall ship with 68 other people, making new friends and seeing new places. Cruise the Caribbean or the less known islands of the Canaries with their wonderful sunshine record and dramatic landscape. Escape to cosmopolitan Barcelona and stroll down the Ramblas taking in a few Tapas on the way or come into dock with the dolphins at the Rock of Gibraltar. Take to the seas like a modern day explorer – next stop – your final destination! Travel in splendour and take on the challenge!
